“Be aware of the potential for extreme weather in several areas of East Java which could result in hydrometeorological disasters such as moderate to heavy rain, floods, flash floods, landslides, strong winds, tornadoes and hail in the period 6-12 November 2025,” said Taufiq, Thursday (6/11).
BMKG noted that the potential for extreme weather covers almost the entire East Java region, including Lumajang, Banyuwangi, Bojonegoro, Jember, Malang, Probolinggo, Sidoarjo and Surabaya districts.
Extreme weather is caused by a number of dynamic atmospheric factors which trigger increased formation of rain clouds in the area.
“This potential is due to the disturbance of Rossby and Low Frequency atmospheric waves currently crossing the East Java region. Apart from that, the wind pattern in the East Java region and the sea surface temperature which is still quite warm around the Madura Strait also support the growth of convective clouds which have the potential to cause moderate to heavy intensity rain,” said Taufiq.
BMKG urges the public, as well as local governments and related agencies to be aware of sudden weather changes.
Areas with mountainous, steep topography and near cliffs are asked to be more prepared for potential disasters such as flash floods, landslides and fallen trees.
“BMKG Juanda appealed to the public and related agencies to always be alert to sudden weather changes and the potential for extreme weather in the form of moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds over the next week,” he said.
Taufiq also reminded the public to always monitor the latest weather forecast information through official channels.BMKG emphasized that it will continue to update weather forecast and early warning information so that the public can anticipate the potential impacts of extreme weather in their respective areas.
