The National Police reveals a new method related to electronic ticket notification fraud (
ETLE
) via SMS.The police then asked the public to be more careful.
Dirlantas Polda Riau Islands Commissioner Andika Bayu Adhittama emphasized that the official ETLE notification was never sent via SMS.

“If there is a message via SMS claiming to be an electronic ticket, it is fraud. Official ETLE notifications are only via WhatsApp or email,” said Andika, quoted on the Korlantas Polri website, Tuesday (9/12).

This warning emerged after a resident named Syahri (34) reported to the police because he received an SMS message in the name of a ticket fine.The message was sent from an unknown number and contained a fine payment link.
In the first SMS, Syahri was asked to immediately pay the traffic violation fine to avoid additional sanctions.The message also included a suspicious link.
The next day he again received a similar message from a different number claiming to be the last notification before being subject to a double penalty.
When trying to open the link and enter the vehicle license plate number, a page appears displaying information on payment of a fine of IDR 100 thousand.
It also has a choice of payment methods which leads to the use of a credit or debit card.
“If we fill in the data, the balance can immediately be drained,” said Syahri.
After checking with the Riau Islands Regional Police Traffic Directorate, officers confirmed that the message was an attempt at fraud via a phishing website.
The police reminded the public not to be easily trusted and to always check the veracity of messages in the name of ETLE.
According to Kakorlantas Regulation (Perkakor) Number 1 of 2025, ETLE confirmation is sent via two official channels, namely the Post Office and electronic media such as Gmail and WhatsApp.Official confirmation from the National Police Traffic Corps will appear via the National ETLE chatbot which already has a blue tick.
Then, there are three main characteristics of ETLE confirmation, first it contains a photo of the violator’s vehicle, second it displays a reference number, third the confirmation link uses the official domain polri.go.id
Violators can also check the reference number via the confirmation-etle.polri.go.id page to ensure the violation data is valid, complete with time, location and type of violation.
The police also asked the public not to make payments if the link or message feels strange.
“We ask residents to remain careful and report immediately if they receive suspicious messages regarding traffic tickets,” said Andika.
