open your voice regarding the flood disaster in Sumatra.The richest man and owner of the global satellite broadband internet service provider Starlink said he would provide free service to his customers in Indonesia.
This was conveyed after floods and landslides hit a number of areas in Sumatra in the last few days, leaving several areas isolated due to internet access and telecommunications networks being cut off.
“SpaceX’s standard policy is to make Starlink free whenever a natural disaster occurs somewhere in the world,” said Elon Musk at X, Saturday (29/11).

“It is not right to profit from disaster,” he emphasized.
This statement was also made after Starlink announced free service to all customers, both new and old, until the end of December 2025 due to the disaster which killed more than 100 people.

“For those affected by severe flooding in Indonesia, Starlink provides free services for new and old customers until the end of December,” wrote Starlink on their social media, Friday (28/11).
“We are also working with the Indonesian government to immediately build a terminal and restore connectivity to the worst affected areas in Sumatra.”
For customers who are currently suspended or paused, Starlink also provides free service credits, allowing customers to reactivate and use service credits during the oti period.
“After you purchase and activate the service, please create a support ticket with “Indonesian Flood Support”. You can view your existing credit via the billing tab in your account,” he wrote
Based on BNPB data on Friday (28/11) evening, 174 people were confirmed dead and 79 people were missing due to flash floods and landslides in North Sumatra, Aceh and West Sumatra.
