) reached IDR 107.55 trillion.
Head of the Inter-Institutional Relations Division of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (APINDO) Sarman Simanjorang explained that the calculation was based on the projected number of homecoming travelers during the Christmas period, which reached 119.5 million people.
This figure increased by 2.71 percent compared to last year or around 42.01 percent of Indonesia’s population based on the Transportation Policy Agency Survey of the Ministry of Transportation.

Sarman said the basis for the calculation was equivalent to 29.875 million families assuming an average of 4 people per family.
“If each family brings an average of IDR 3.6 million, the potential circulation of money will reach IDR 107,550 trillion. There is still potential above that, we take a moderate figure, up 10 percent from last year’s average of IDR 3.3 million/family,” explained Sarman in a written statement, Monday (15/12).
Sarman assessed that the number of homecoming travelers was unexpected because the next two months will enter the fasting month, so people are also preparing for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming.
In this way, Sarman previously suspected that the close time would prevent people from traveling home.
“It turns out that this was unexpected, people’s enthusiasm for going home for the Christmas holidays, both to celebrate Christmas and the year-end holidays, was triggered by the stimulus provided by the Government as an integrated effort to reduce people’s travel costs, which usually increase sharply towards the end of the year,” said Sarman.
He also said that the government’s stimulus would attract people, such as discounts on toll rates and discounts on land, sea and air transportation modes.
Sarman added that various business sectors will also be more productive and profitable for entrepreneurs during the Christmas holiday period.
“Various business sectors will be more productive and profitable during the Christmas holidays, including shopping malls, wholesalers, Christmas parcel services, cake shops, hotels, motels, villas, apartments, restaurants, cafes, culinary centers, regional souvenir craftsmen, various MSME products, mini markets and micro traders spread across various tourist attractions,” he added.
The food and beverage industry will also benefit due to increased demand during Nataru, especially producers of regional fashion/batik/fabric, food and beverages such as cakes, bread, snacks, meat, sausages and beverages such as syrup, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages.
“For cash needs, Bank Indonesia and the banking sector must ensure the availability of various rupiah denominations either via ATM or direct collection for Christmas and New Year 2025/2026 needs,” he explained.
The circulation of money will be spread across areas where the majority of the population celebrates Christmas, such as Papua, Maluku, North Sulawesi, West Kalimantan, North Sumatra and various districts in Indonesia. Then, favorite tourist destinations such as Bali, Yogyakarta, Malang, Bandung, Bogor, and others.
Seeing this, Sarman appealed to managers of tourist destinations, hotels, parking lots, MSME food culinary establishments and regional souvenirs not to increase prices or tariffs excessively. This aims to ensure that travelers do not hesitate to spend money.
“Hopefully this Christmas holiday will be able to move the economy in various regions and will contribute to national economic growth in the fourth quarter of 2025 which is targeted at around 5.00-5.04 percent so that Indonesia’s economic growth in 2025 can stay at 5 percent or more,” concluded Sarman.
