emphasized that the Indonesian sports industry must become a new force in the world.
This was conveyed directly by Erick Thohir when opening the 2025 Indonesia Sport Summit (ISS) at the Indonesia Arena, Jakarta, Saturday (7/12).
According to Erick, around 40 percent of the world’s sports industry is still controlled by the United States.Total global sports industry sales in 2024 will reach USD 521 billion.

Seeing this data, Menpora Erick invited all sports stakeholders in Indonesia to work together to change the perception that Indonesia must be able to become a new force in the world in developing the Sports Industry.
“We have to become a new force in the world sports industry. If we want, Indonesia can become a new force in the world sports industry. Moreover, we have hosted world-class events such as the 2018 Asian Games, Moto GP, U-17 World Cup, Basketball World Cup,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Erick on the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
However, to realize that Indonesia can become a new power in the world sports industry, cooperation from all stakeholders is required.Starting from ministry to regional level.
One important element in supporting the sports industry is policy makers.Synergy is needed between the government and sports entrepreneurs in the country.
“If the policy makers are contradictory, it certainly can’t be done. We have to make policies that make it easier but adhere to the administration. Therefore, at this ISS event, I invite all officials at the Ministry of Youth and Sports to change their mindset to support the development of the sports industry,” said Menpora Erick.
Menpora Erick also emphasized that the Indonesia Sport Summit was an event to take the first steps to support the development of the sports industry in Indonesia.This step is also an implementation to support President Prabowo Subianto’s steps to make Indonesia’s economy grow.
“Just yesterday, President Prabowo released the Indonesian contingent at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand. And Mr President said that if we want to become a developed country, we have to have a growing economy, strong defense and outstanding sports,” said Minister of Youth and Sports Erick.
ISS itself was organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports to strengthen the national sports industry.ISS 2025 aims to become a collaborative platform between sports players, government and the young generation, as well as building an inclusive and globally competitive sports ecosystem.Agendas such as panel discussions, industry exhibitions and job vacancies will be held to create new opportunities.
ISS 2025, which will be held on 6-7 December 2025 in Indonesia, is not just a discussion forum, but also an entry point for investment, innovation and human resource development that will strengthen the future foundations of the Indonesian sports industry.
