Exports of cars in intact form or CBU by Toyota have been running since 1987 with the first shipment of the third generation Kijang to Brunei Darussalam. Now exports also include electrified vehicle lines.
On the other hand, exports of 3 million units are an accumulation of shipments to more than 100 countries in various parts of the world from 1987 until now.
For Nandi, this achievement cannot be achieved through a short process, but requires long hard work and dedication.
“Thank you to the Indonesian people, consumers and customers, sales networks, and stakeholders who have supported the development of the domestic automotive industry so that it can become one of the backbones of economic growth and a positive contributor to the trade balance through export activities,” said Nandi.
At the TEI 2025, Toyota also displayed the Kijang Innova Zenix in half-decomposed form. This car has been built by involving the local supply chain in its development.Apart from that, there is a Toyota Rangga which was converted into a Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) logistics vehicle.
“Starting as a vehicle importer, it transformed until it was finally able to produce engines, components and complete vehicles on a large scale. As time goes by, the level of local content continues to increase, even reaching more than 80 percent,” said Bob Azam, Deputy President Director of TMMIN.
Bob added that Indonesia is not only a production base for ICE engine-based vehicles, but also electrified vehicles for the domestic and export markets.
“This transformation shows that the national automotive production process has reached a higher level as an industry capable of carrying out all stages of production, until it becomes a final product that is competitive in the global market,” said Bob.
Based on data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Toyota’s export value for the period January to September 2025 amounted to 218,162 units, or around 57 percent of the total national automotive industry exports, which reached 384,382 units.
