Asian Football Confederation (
AFC
) warned the Malaysian government to act wisely amidst the chaos experienced by the Malaysian Football Association (
FAM
).
AFC Secretary General, Datuk Seri Windsor Paul John, warned the Malaysian government not to interfere in the affairs of FAM, which is currently in a difficult ‘deal’ with FIFA because of the falsification of documents for seven naturalized players of the Harimau Malaya team.
Windsor believes that FAM’s precarious condition could plunge further if the government intervenes.

“Even though FAM is in crisis, the ministry or its ministers cannot order FAM officials to resign. They cannot do so, because they are elected by member affiliates,” said Windsor as quoted by The News Straits Times.
Not only that, Windsor also reminded that all official statements must be made very carefully because any misinterpretation could be considered interference.
“When making statements, you must be careful not to violate FAM’s independence,” he said.
Windsor does not deny the government’s position as one of the tandem associations in developing football in a country, but the government cannot dictate association administration.
This figure from Malaysia also gave an example of a case where the government intervened and made the situation even more chaotic.
“They must not interfere, must not give any instructions, must not influence.”
“Recently, the case was Brunei. There was third party interference in the election process… FIFA and the AFC have formed a normalization committee,” said Windsor, referring to an incident that occurred in the last two months.
