Malaysian national team
experienced a decline in FIFA rankings after being sanctioned by WO for losing in three FIFA Matchday matches.
FAM is currently focused on waiting for the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and has chosen to accept additional punishment from FIFA.
Acting FAM President, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi, emphasized that his party respected FIFA’s decision to cancel the results of three international matches because they fielded seven problematic naturalized players.

“The penalty of deducting points which causes Malaysia’s ranking to drop is something that must be accepted and respected by FAM, in accordance with FIFA’s recent decision to impose such a penalty. What we can do is look forward and focus on the case at CAS,” he added.
As predicted, FIFA’s punishment for FAM had a major impact on Harimau Malaya’s world ranking position.
Malaysia is considered to have lost 0-3 to Cape Verde, Singapore and Palestine. These results made Malaysia fall from the top 120 in the world.
Yesterday’s latest FIFA ranking announcement showed Peter Cklamovski’s team dropping five places to 121st in the world. This means that Indonesia is one level above its rival team, the Indonesian National Team, which is ranked 122nd.
The Malaysian national team currently has 1,145.89 points, which means they have lost around 22 points compared to when they were in 116th place in the world with 1,168 points.
This decision not only caused a decline in the FIFA rankings but also ended the unbeaten record throughout the year.
