The flash flood occurred last Saturday (1/11) at 17.00 local time after high intensity rain occurred in the upstream area.
“The total number of victims was 23 people, with details of 15 people in Dal District and 8 others in Yuguru District,” said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari in his statement, Tuesday (4/11).

“A number of missing residents are thought to have been swept away by strong currents while crossing the Papan River,” he continued.
Apart from search and rescue efforts, the Nduga Regency BPBD is also continuing to update disaster impact data.
So far, the areas affected by the disaster are in 2 districts, namely Dal and Yuguru.The areas in Dal District that were hit by flash floods were located in two villages, Kampung Dal and Kampung Silan.
Based on early warning information in the Papua region, today the Southwest Papua region has the potential for moderate to heavy intensity rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds until 13.20 local time.
The area with this potential is in Raja Ampat Regency and could expand to Sorong Regency and Sorong City.The potential for moderate to heavy intensity rain can continue until 14.20 WIT.
Furthermore, BNPB appealed to local governments and residents to remain alert and prepared for the potential threat of wet hydrometeorological hazards.Residents can continuously monitor weather information in their area from official government information.
“Meanwhile, regional governments, especially BPBD, are expected to carry out prevention, mitigation and preparedness efforts, such as disseminating early warning information or evacuating residents,” said Muhari.
