The Directorate General of Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) named one suspect with the initials MH (37) who is suspected of being the main actor in mining activities

Head of the Forestry Gakkum Center for the Kalimantan Region of the Ministry of Forestry, Leonardo Gultom, said that the determination of the suspect was carried out after intensive coordination with the Korwas Bareskrim Bureau and Sub-Directorate V of Bareskrim at the National Police Headquarters.
“MH is a DPO (People Wanted List) target who has been sought for years. Thanks to good synergy with the Korwas Bureau and Sub-Directorate V of Bareskrim, Police Headquarters, we were finally able to carry out an examination and determine a suspect for MH who is now a prisoner of Sub-Directorate V of Bareskrim,” he said in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/11).

As reported by investigators from the Kalimantan Regional Forestry Law Enforcement Agency, MH is suspected of playing a role as the financier and person responsible for illegal coal mining activities that occurred in the Tahura Bukit Soeharto area in 2022.
This determination was a follow-up to the East Kalimantan Hornbill Brigade SPORC team’s arrest operation against four heavy equipment operators, respectively S (47), B (44), AM (32), and NT (44).
Leonardo explained that the four operators were caught red-handed carrying out illegal coal mining in the area

Samboja Reservoir, which is administratively included in the IKN area.
Then in this case, he stated that MH was suspected of giving direct instructions to the operators to mine in the conservation forest area.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Forestry Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Forestry, Dwi Januanto Nugroho, added that action against illegal mining practices in Tahura Bukit Soeharto is part of efforts to protect the conservation forest area which is now the delineation of the IKN area.
“Law enforcement will continue to be carried out consistently to provide a deterrent effect and save forest resources from ecological damage,” he said.
For his actions, MH was suspected of violating Article 78 paragraph (2)

Article 50 paragraph (3) letter a of Law Number 41/1999 concerning Forestry, as amended in Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning the Determination of the Job Creation Perpu into Law, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of imprisonment of 10 years, and a fine of IDR 5 billion.
