In the Final Disposal Site (TPA) Junks, Medan Marelan District, Medan City, North Sumatra, has now become a “giant mountain” as high as almost 50 meters.
Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas is worried that the mounting garbage will cause environmental problems, especially for the people around the TPA plunging.
“This environmental problem is our priority, so I have ordered the Environment Agency to immediately make short -term efforts to overcome the problem of this landfill,” Rico said while reviewing the landfill, Monday (8/9).
According to Rico, one of the short-term efforts that can be done currently reduces the amount of garbage disposal from the city directly to the landfill by creating a 3R TPS (a reducing-reuse-recycle waste processing site).
“Disposal of garbage directly to the landfill right now the number can reach 1,700 tons/day, we will try to reduce it by reducing in the middle of the city so that the amount of garbage from the city to the landfill can be reduced,” said Rico Waas.
In addition he also encouraged the public to revive the garbage bank.Rico wants every environment to have his own garbage bank.
“We have encouraged every environment to have a garbage bank that can later be cooperated with TPS 3R,” he said.
In the review Rico also revealed that the Medan City Government had collaborated with the central government to create a method of processing waste into electrical energy (PSEL).
“We will continue to coordinate with the central government, so that this program can be used as our priority program,” he said.
While the long -term efforts to manage the TPA, according to Rico, the sanitary landfill system will be prepared.
“The final goal is to go there, but we must prepare the technology well from now,” he said.
Head of Medan City Environment Agency Melvi Marlabayana when met said he would follow up on the direction of the mayor by creating a 3R TPS.
“We will make this 3R TPS as soon as possible, so later what is thrown into this landfill is only the results of the reduction,” he explained.
