In a statement, the Gaza People’s Army said Abu Shahab died from a gunshot wound while mediating a family argument.They dismissed rumors that the boss died because he was killed by Hamas militia.
Two Israeli sources said they tried to rush Abu Shahab to hospital before he died.However, his life could not be saved.
Abu Shahab is the leader of an armed group in Gaza which is supported by Israel.His group is among the gangs backed by the Zionist State and is an enemy of Hamas.
Who is the Gaza People’s Army?
The Gaza People’s Army is an armed group formed by Yasser Abu Shahab which was founded in 2023.
Abu Shahab founded this group after escaping from prison because it was bombed by Israel in October 2023.
Abu Shahab was previously arrested by Hamas in 2015 on drug trafficking charges.He was sentenced to 25 years in prison at Asda, located in Khan Younis.

, since his escape, Abu Shahab gathered the Gaza People’s Army at the Kerem Shalom border, which connects Gaza, Israel and Egypt.He managed to recruit several hundred people and control the surrounding area.
A leaked UN memo described the Gaza People’s Army headquarters as a “military compound” with areas “restricted, controlled and monitored” by Israeli forces.
According to researcher at the European Council on Foreign Relations, Muhammad Shehada, the Abu Shahab group was involved in several activities.These activities include looting UN aid, carrying out reconnaissance missions for Israel, and acting as a proxy militia for Israel in areas that have been depopulated.
This group is also accused of collaborating with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an aid agency in Gaza which has attracted a lot of controversy because it is incompetent in distributing aid.
As Gaza humanitarian aid began to arrive, some truck drivers accused Abu Shahab’s forces of intercepting aid deliveries and forcing them to unload the goods.
The Gaza People’s Army first appeared in Gaza when Israel attacked Rafah in May 2024. This group then expanded its grip in the Nasr, eastern Rafah and Khan Younis areas.
Abu Shahab is believed to be the figure Israel relies on to weaken Hamas’ power in Gaza.His group has been targeted by Israel to secure the reconstruction of Gaza under a ceasefire agreement.
