, moyamoya is a rare and progressive condition that affects the blood vessels in the brain. It is called “moyamoya”, which means “fuzzy” or “puff of smoke” in Japanese.
This condition occurs when the arteries at the base of the brain (especially the internal carotid artery) become narrowed or blocked, resulting in reduced blood flow.
The body tries to compensate by creating a network of small blood vessels to bypass the blockage, which looks like a “puff of smoke” on imaging scans.
