US President Donald Trump previously announced that his administration was lifting restrictions on exports of Nvidia H200 chips to China.
The H200 is one of the advanced chips made by Nvidia, which is considered very important for carrying out tasks carried out by artificial intelligence.
According to two sources, Nvidia will fulfill initial orders using available stock, with shipment volumes estimated at 5,000 to 10,000 chip modules, equivalent to around 40,000-80,000 AI H200 chips.
A third source said Nvidia also plans to increase production capacity for these chips, with orders for additional capacity opening in the second quarter of 2026. However, uncertainty still surrounds this plan because the Chinese government has not given official approval.
“The plan is completely dependent on government approval. Nothing is certain until we get official approval,” said one source, according to
Reuters
, Monday (22/12).
The move marks a major policy shift compared to the previous administration under Joe Biden, which banned the export of advanced AI chips to China for national security reasons.

It was also previously reported that the Trump administration launched an interagency review of its H200 sales license application to China.Nvidia emphasized that the plan would not disrupt supply for the US domestic market.
“We continue to manage our supply chain. Licensed sales of the H200 to authorized customers in China will not impact our ability to supply customers in the United States,” Nvidia said in a written statement.
To date, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has not responded to a request for comment.
Even though it has been replaced by Blackwell’s latest generation chips, the H200 from the Hopper line is still widely used in AI development and remains in demand. On the other hand, this US decision comes amidst China’s efforts to accelerate the development of the domestic AI chip industry.
Local companies have not been able to produce chips that can match the performance of the H200, adding that the Chinese government even held an emergency meeting to discuss whether shipments of such chips would be allowed.
Tech giants such as Alibaba and ByteDance are said to have expressed interest in buying the H200 if official approval is finally given.
