“Starting from the corporate side, of course, starting today, we will withdraw all environmental approvals from existing environmental documents in disaster areas,” said Hanif after a meeting at Commission XII of the DPR, Thursday (3/12).
“Currently only seven of the eight have been recorded. Eight of them are actually not yet active, but we will look into them further. So this is the one in Batang Toru, yes. But of course we have to be fair,” he added.
Hanif admitted that he had also summoned the eight companies on Monday (8/12) next week for questioning. They will be questioned by the Deputy for Law Enforcement (Gakkum) of the Ministry of Environment.
According to Hanif, his party will also take a criminal approach to these findings, especially since the number of victims in this case is not small.
“Because this has caused casualties, a criminal approach will emerge,” he said.
Hanif suspects that the operations of a number of companies in West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh are the cause of increasingly severe weather and rain anomalies.Because in fact, of the 340 thousand hectares of forest, 50 thousand of them are now dry land.
“Of the 340 thousand hectares, maybe 50 thousand upstream, it is in the form of dry land. There are no trees on it, so once it rains a little, we can imagine that,” he said.
