Status of emergency response to natural disasters in
West Sumatra
(West Sumatra) will be extended considering that most districts and cities are still carrying out emergency management due to the floods and landslides that occurred several days ago.
“Our emergency response work is still ongoing and has not been completed. It will definitely be extended because the completion is not yet complete,” said West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi in Padang City, Sunday (7/12).

The governor said he had asked all regional heads to submit reports and input regarding the current conditions in their respective regions. This input will be taken into consideration before the official decision to extend the status is issued on December 8 2025.
“Now the Regional Secretary is preparing a document and will discuss it together. We are also asking for input from districts and cities,” said Mahyeldi.
The governor said a number of areas such as Solok City, Payakumbuh City and Bukittinggi City were starting to stabilize and no longer required emergency status. However, other areas such as Agam Regency, Pariaman City, Pesisir Selatan, and several other areas still require intensive treatment.
At several points, road and bridge access is still cut off so that aid distribution cannot run optimally.
Mahyeldi said the provincial government is also increasing the availability of basic needs such as food, clean water, sleeping equipment and special assistance for pregnant women and toddlers.
“We continue to distribute food needs. For drinking water, we have sent storage tanks and are working on filling them and reconnecting the distribution network,” he said.
Mahyeldi revealed that the number of refugees still reached 20 thousand people. Most of the people whose houses were badly damaged were directed to live temporarily in tents or temporary shelters (huntara) until an assessment of the suitability of the housing location was completed.
“If their house is no longer habitable and they have land, the government will help with construction. If they don’t have land, they will look for an alternative location,” he explained.
At the same time, the West Sumatra Provincial Government also received support from various other regions such as Riau, Jambi and neighboring district and city governments.
Assistance came through various agencies, including the TNI, Polri, Basarnas, and volunteers. This collaboration is important so that the distribution of aid runs well and does not hinder the work of heavy equipment in the field.
