, Gavin Newsom, celebrates Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the New York City mayoral election on Tuesday (4/11) local time.
Newsom then criticized Trump for alleging the election was rigged.

“He also announced today, just as the polls opened, that the election was rigged,” Newsom was quoted as saying

Trump conveyed similar rhetoric during the 2020 election, including on January 6 2021 ahead of the riots at the Capitol Building.
“Tonight I am proud but aware of the times we are facing. Trump does not believe in fair and free elections. Period,” he added.
On that occasion, Newsom also touched on California being involved in a national battle over redrawing electoral districts.
Newsom said California “remained standing tall and resolute in the face of Trump’s reckless actions” by passing Proposition 50.
Proposition 50 allows for delayed special elections thereby redrawing congressional districts in the 2026 midterms.
In a press conference shortly after

projects that the proposal will be approved.
“He understands where he is in the US right now. But one thing he doesn’t take into account is the state of California,” Newsom said.
“Instead of lamenting the state of the nation, we moved in an organized manner in an unprecedented way, in the short space of 90 days.”
Newsom also warned that Trump’s actions regarding the deployment of the National Guard in various regions were something that needed to be criticized and could be repeated in the future.
“They are not playing around. There is no crown, no throne, no king,” he said.
“That’s the meaning of this victory. This is a victory for the people of the state of California and for the people of the United States,” he added.
Mamdani won the New York mayoral election after capturing 50.5 percent of the vote out of 85 percent of the votes cast based on calculations.
