officially received the title of national hero from the President
Prabowo Subianto
on Monday (10/11) today.
The procession was held to coincide with National Heroes’ Day today.Gus Dur’s wife Sinta Nur Wahid and family representing the family received the title from the government.
The President’s Military Secretary stated that the designation of this national hero was based on Presidential Decree No. 116/TK of 2025 concerning the Awarding of the Title of National Hero.

Gus Dur served as the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia after being elected through the MPR election mechanism in 1999 until he was impeached in July 2001.
Apart from serving as president, Gus Dur is the leading kyai of Nahdlatul Ulama.Gus Dur is the grandson of NU founder KH Hasyim Asyari and the son of Wahid Hasyim.Gus Dur also served as General Chair of PBNU.
Gus Dur is called the father of Indonesian pluralism.One of them is because of its policies for ethnic Chinese.
While serving as president, Gus Dur revoked Presidential Instruction no.14 of 1967 in the era of President Soeharto which banned Chinese New Year celebrations.
Gus Dur was declared a national hero along with nine other figures today.
Some of them are the 2nd President Soeharto, former Foreign Minister and Chancellor of Padjadjaran University Mochtar Kusumaatmadja, and New Order era activist and labor figure Marsinah.
