claimed most of the NU Regional Management (
PWNU
) throughout Indonesia do not want him to step down from the position of general chairman.
Gus Yahya said this after the Coordination Meeting of PWNU Chairs throughout Indonesia at the Navator Hotel Surabaya, East Java, from 19.33 WIB, Saturday (22/11) evening to Sunday (23/11) at 01.00 WIB in the morning.The forum itself is closed.
“They (PWNU Chairs throughout Indonesia) said they didn’t want me to resign. So they were worried that I would resign. Because they had previously elected me, they would be disappointed if I resign. I said it didn’t occur to me at all (to resign), because there was no reason for that,” said Gus Yahya.

, there were at least 20 PWNU representatives from all over Indonesia who came to the coordination meeting.
At the forum, Gus Yahya also explained what was happening internally at PBNU at the moment.Including the issue of his impeachment from the position of general chairman.
“And I explained what had happened in the past few days which had become a matter of discussion. Yes, thank God, PWNU was then able to get a complete understanding of everything that happened,” he said.
The caretaker of the Raudlatut Thalibin Islamic Boarding School in Leteh, Rembang, Central Java also said that, after he gave an explanation, the PWNU Chairs throughout Indonesia finally decided to carry out further consolidation independently.
Meanwhile, Gus Yahya admitted that he did not want to interfere and gave them freedom to act.
“I invite them to coordinate between PWNU-PWNU to make an agreement between PWNU-PWNU to respond to what is going on. Yes, so they will work independently,” he said.
According to Gus Yahya, NU does not belong to a handful of PBNU elites or is controlled by himself.So regional NU administrators, he said, also have a role in determining the direction of this organization.
“And because this is a problem that has the potential to have a national impact, then yes, they also have the right to act to make efforts to seek benefits for NU,” continued Gus Yahya.
Gus Yahya emphasized that in the Indonesian PWNU Coordination Meeting forum he was only present to provide an explanation.This is so that the management does not take the wrong position based on mere rumors and slander.
“Yes, they want to consolidate themselves. Yes, please. I am only providing explanations so that their understanding is complete and not only guided by rumors, let alone slander,” he said.
Gus Yahya is confident that NU will be able to overcome the current problems.The reason, he said, is that NU is an old Islamic organization and has a long history.
“Apart from all that, the latter is of course because Nahdlatul Ulama is a large and old organization and has experienced all kinds of waves throughout its history. I am optimistic that NU has within itself the ability to overcome this problem as well as possible,” said Katana.
Gus Yahya also admitted that he would not stop trying to find a way out of the turmoil that NU is currently facing.He believes that mutual benefit will be achieved.
“God willing, a good solution will be found for the common good, for the benefit of the people, nation and state. This is what we hope for and I will not stop trying to do this. I will continue to try to do whatever I can so that a solution can be found for the common benefit of Nahdlatul Ulama, for its citizens, for this nation and state,” he said.
“Because NU is so big that it can be said that approximately half of Indonesia’s face is NU. So if NU is not good, then Indonesia’s face may also be bad. So this is my obligation not only as general chairman, not only as a citizen of the Republic of Indonesia, but also an obligation to the nation and state,” he said.
As is known, Yahya Cholil Staquf or Gus Yahya is facing the issue of an attempt to impeach himself from the position of General Chair of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board.
The issue of Gus Yahya’s impeachment was revealed through the PBNU Syuriyah Daily Meeting Minutes document dated November 20 2025.
Based on the document, the Syuriyah Daily Meeting was said to have been attended by 37 people out of a total of 53 PBNU Daily Syuriyah Management.
The minutes document itself was signed by Rais Aam PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar.However, the validity of the document has not been confirmed.
