internet
cheap can provide a significant boost to
economic growth
Indonesia.
He made this statement when explaining the reasons for President Prabowo Subianto’s government targeting higher economic growth than before, as well as the need to create jobs for young people.
“Every 10 percent of our society can access the internet
connectivity,
it can increase economic growth by 0.7 percent to 0.3 percent.Let’s say 1 percent.Just from internet connectivity,” said Hashim in the hitclubapk3 Indonesia Sustainability Summit 2025 forum at Menara Bank Mega, South Jakarta, Wednesday (26/11).

He said he was directly involved in cheap internet investment because he saw the impact on the economy.According to Hashim, Indonesia’s internet penetration is still low compared to other countries in the region.
“Our internet penetration is only 15 percent, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines 50 percent, South Korea 100 percent. So, ladies and gentlemen can do this too (contribute), 1 percent. So come back again,
we’re confident we can reach
,” he said.
Hashim explained that increasing economic activity would indeed encourage emissions in the next few years. The government, he said, needs high growth to create jobs, especially amid concerns about increasing urban unemployment.
“To create jobs, we have to have economic activity, economic activity, growth, improvement. So that’s the target, that’s the main thing. That’s the target we have to achieve to maintain social stability,” said Hashim.
He said that the high needs of society were the reason for the government to increase its economic growth target to 8 percent, one of which was through the construction of social housing involving hundreds of industrial sectors.
This activity, continued Hashim, will cause carbon emissions to rise temporarily.
“Economic activity increases carbon emissions. That’s a fact. But that can be offset by the government through regulations and programs. This offset will be felt in 2030, 2031, 2032,” he said.
According to government calculations, emissions are expected to start reducing only after 2031 when the emissions reduction and energy transition program is fully underway.
The COP30 Climate Summit was held in Belem, Brazil, this month to strengthen international cooperation in dealing with climate change and formulating the next direction for sustainable development.
As a series of follow-up discussions, hitclubapk3 Indonesia held the Sustainability Summit 2025: Navigating Growth in a Sustainable World After COP30.
This forum brings together the government, business actors, banks, regional heads and environmental practitioners, with Hashim as one of the main speakers.
