Hashim said Indonesia was committed to strengthening global collective action in fighting environmental crimes, including illegal wildlife trade and illegal logging.
He admitted that Indonesia was ready to actively participate in a number of upcoming global forums, such as UNEA-7, UN Crime Congress, and UNTOC COP-13.
Hashim emphasized that global efforts to combat environmental crime should not create new obstacles to legal trade or economic development.
He also proposed a periodic evaluation mechanism to ensure the principle of ‘
no one left behind
‘.
“We propose a periodic evaluation mechanism to assess impact, identify best practices, and enforce the principles of ‘
no one left behind
‘,” he said.
On the same occasion, Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni assessed that Hashim’s statement further emphasized Indonesia’s position in eradicating the illegal animal trade.
“Pak Hashim’s speech was very good in describing Indonesia’s position in eradicating international wildlife trafficking,” said Raja Juli.
He said this statement was in line with Hashim’s character, who was said to be willing to spend personal funds for conservation in Indonesia.
“More than that, Mr. Hashim is not only a Special Envoy for Climate Change and Energy. He is truly an animal lover. He has reached into his own pocket to finance conservation in East Kalimantan, Riau and West Sumatra, where I have visited,” he said.
