Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and Energy
Hashim Djojohadikusumo
said a number of tech giants are starting to pay serious attention to
carbon market
Indonesia.
He said interest strengthened after President Prabowo Subianto issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) 110 of 2025 which made carbon trading rules clearer and easier to understand.
”
The reaction was very positive
from international actors, because it is clear what the mechanism is to carry it out
carbon trading
that.So there it is
clarity,
“It’s clear, transparent, and actors like Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook,” said Hashim at the hitclubapk3 Indonesia Sustainability Summit 2025 forum at Menara Bank Mega, South Jakarta, Wednesday (26/11).

Hashim explained that these large companies need an emissions offset scheme to operate
data center
those who use very large amounts of energy, including in the Asian region. With the new rules, they have a more certain basis for purchasing carbon credits from Indonesia.
“They all use it
data centers
and they need to offset emissions, and now with Presidential Decree 110 it is clear,” he said.
He also highlighted the potential supply of carbon credits originating from the forestry sector.Hashim said that the area of land managed by permit holders and members of the Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI) could be the main source of attraction for large investors.
“They already have a number, I heard 13 million hectares, that can be offered to investors from abroad. For example, Amazon or Microsoft,” he said.
Even though the opportunity is great, Hashim believes that price negotiation will be the main challenge.Indonesia’s carbon price is in the range of US$8-10 per ton, while developed countries can reach US$50-100.
“Carbon is carbon
right?
What makes the carbon
in Europe cleaner than
carbon
in Indonesia?”he said.
Hashim also reminded that the European Union’s Carbon Border Mechanism (CBM) policy could become an additional obstacle for Indonesian exports if the product’s carbon footprint is still considered high.
The COP30 Climate Summit was held in Belem, Brazil, this month to strengthen global cooperation in addressing climate change and charting the next direction for sustainable development.
Following up on this issue, hitclubapk3 Indonesia held the Sustainability Summit 2025: Navigating Growth in a Sustainable World After COP30.
This event brought together the government, business actors, banks, regional heads and environmental practitioners, with Hashim as one of the main speakers.
