“Amir Ghalenoei, head coach of the Iranian national team, will participate in the World Cup draw ceremony as a technical representative of the national football team along with one or two other people,” a spokesman for the Iranian Football Federation told state television.
Previously, Iran was said to have chosen to be absent from the 2026 World Cup drawing. Iran boycotted because some of their delegates did not receive visas from the United States on Friday (28/11).
The Iranian sports site, Varzesh 3, reported that one of the Iranian delegates who did not receive a visa was the President of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj.
“We have told the President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, that this is purely a political position and FIFA must tell them (USA) to stop this behavior,” Taj said at the time.
However, now four Iranian delegates, including Ghalenoei, have received visas from the US for the 2026 World Cup draw.
A total of 42 national teams were declared to have qualified for the 2026 World Cup and will take part in the drawing.Meanwhile, the remaining six tickets for the 2026 World Cup will be contested through the playoffs between confederations and UEFA zones.
