Faisal explained that Cyclone Bakung developed southwest of Lampung and was moving away from Indonesia.
However, according to BMKG monitoring, the status of this cyclone has risen from category 1 to category 2. He also reminded that the tropical cyclone Senyar which caused extreme weather in the Sumatra region was only recorded in category 1.
BMKG predicts that Cyclone Bakung will move closer to Indonesian territory, so it will continue to be monitored for the next two to three days.He hopes that this cyclone will not enter Indonesia, so that it does not affect rainfall.
“We will continue to monitor the dynamics, we hope it doesn’t come any closer which will affect rainfall,” he said.
Furthermore, in Bali, Nusa Tenggara and East Java, the seeds of cyclone 93S were monitored. In southern Papua, the seeds of cyclone 95S were observed.
Faisal said that the presence of cyclone and cyclone seeds increases conditions for high to very high rainfall.Apart from that, it also increases the potential for high waves in the surrounding waters.
“We have conveyed that, in collaboration with BNPB, BPBD and Basarnas, the community will remain calm as long as we can monitor conditions and always prepare for high rainfall and high waves,” he stressed.
He also ensured that Indonesia was not alone in facing the siege of these three cyclones.Faisal explained that Indonesia had been appointed by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) as a “Tropical Cyclone Warning Center”.
Indonesia continues to communicate with Australia, Japan and India to determine the conditions of tropical cyclone Bakung which is now approaching Indonesia.
“In fact, it was recorded that on December 14 it (cyclone Bakung) entered category 3, with wind speeds reaching 65 knots. This is very dangerous, but it has dropped again to category 2 and now the hope is that it will be closer to category 1,” he said.
