“Given the large public interest involved, ICAC today established a task force to launch a full investigation into possible corruption in the major renovation project of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po,” said the Independent Anti-Corruption Commission as reported by AFP, Thursday (27/11).
Residents of Wang Fuk Court, located in Hong Kong’s northern Tai Po district, said they did not hear the fire alarm and had to go door to door to alert neighbors of the dangerous situation.
On Friday (28/11) morning, authorities said the fire had been extinguished in four of the nearly 2,000 units of the sprawling apartment complex more than 24 hours after the fire broke out.

At least 76 people were injured in the fire, including 11 firefighters, a government spokesman said. Many people are still missing, although the exact number has not been updated as of Thursday morning.
Authorities began investigating the cause of the fire, including the presence of bamboo scaffolding and plastic netting wrapped around the structure as part of extensive renovations.
The fire was the financial center’s worst disaster in nearly 80 years after a 1948 explosion that followed fire and killed 135 people.
The fire in November 2025 killed 83 people, including a firefighter and two Indonesian citizens (WNI).
Hong Kong leader John Lee also ensured that all officials and authorities immediately inspect all housing complexes and residences that were carrying out major work following the situation.
A fire broke out in an apartment complex at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, on Wednesday (26/11).The fire spread quickly and engulfed the buildings which were still under construction.
This apartment complex consists of eight blocks. The fire occurred in seven blocks, of which three blocks were reported to be under control.
Police stated that when the incident occurred, the apartment complex was covered by netting.Netting is usually used to keep construction materials from falling from scaffolding.
Police suspect that this net was the cause of the fire spreading quickly. This suspicion is known from the fire video circulating.
The mesh material in the construction should not be flammable.Contractors in Hong Kong must have a certificate to ensure this.
