Amid the widespread belief that sperm that is not released for too long can be dangerous, a number of experts emphasize that ejaculation does have an important role.Even so, until now there are no standard medical rules regarding how long sperm must be released.
Andrology Specialist at Eka Hospital Family PIK, Christian Christoper Sunnu, explained that sperm is produced every day by the male body and has a limited life cycle in the reproductive system.

If it is not released for too long, sperm quality can decrease and have the potential to trigger health problems, one of which is prostate cancer.
“Every day an average of 8 million sperm are produced. Sperm is produced in the testicles and stored in the epididymis which can be stored for a maximum of about two weeks. If it is not released, it can accumulate and be dangerous,” said Sunnu in Central Jakarta, Tuesday (16/12).
According to him, the epididymis is not a permanent storage place.Apart from being dangerous, sperm that stays there for too long can also experience a decrease in quality.
Although there are no definite medical standards for preventing prostate cancer, he believes that ejaculating once every one to two weeks can help maintain sperm and prostate health.

, men who ejaculate frequently at least 21 times a month have about a 20 percent lower chance of developing prostate cancer than those who do it less often.
Sperm for too long can trigger inflammation
Sunnu explained that sperm that is not released for a long time also has the potential to experience an expiration process.Under certain conditions, sperm that stays in the reproductive tract for too long can contribute to the formation of free radicals that trigger inflammation.
“If sperm is not released it can ‘expired’ and eventually become free radicals. This can trigger chronic inflammation which leads to prostate enlargement,” he explained.
He added that the mechanism of natural sperm release is also influenced by age.In younger men, ejaculation still runs optimally.
“Young people aged 16-18 years, the wet dream mechanism is still easy. But when you are 30-40 years old, the wet dream mechanism is usually not as strong,” said Sunnu.
However, ejaculating too frequently is not always beneficial for sperm quality.According to him, ejaculating every day is not ideal if the main goal is to maintain sperm health.
“Ejaculation should not be every day because it is not good for sperm health,” he said.
Therefore, ejaculation frequency still needs to be considered to maintain the health of the male reproductive system while also helping to dispose of sperm that has expired.A number of studies also say that masturbating too often can reduce penis sensitivity.
Age and physical activity factors
Sunnu also highlighted prostate disorders which are more common in men aged 40 to 50 years, especially those with a sedentary or sedentary lifestyle.
“Prostate enlargement often occurs in the 40s and 50s due to lack of movement. Body fat is high, while muscle mass is low. Even though the ejaculation process requires muscle work,” he explained.
Not only that, Sunnu also touched on workers who are more susceptible to prostate enlargement. The reason is that these workers rarely move and sit for too long every day.
“Those who often get prostate enlargement are office workers, rarely move, often sit. But if you actively exercise every day, you rarely get prostate enlargement,” said Sunnu.
Prostate cancer can also affect ejaculation because it causes pain.Sufferers may experience bleeding in the semen or a smaller amount of semen than before the cancer diagnosis.
However, until now it is not yet known for certain whether ejaculation during sex has the same benefits as masturbation.
Several studies have found that the composition of semen is different, semen during sex is known to have higher levels of sperm and several chemicals, so it is possible that this difference also influences the risk of prostate cancer in men.
