“Every work is a trace of thoughts, inner processes and long efforts. Protecting works is a form of respect for the creator as well as the advancement of national civilization,” said Ibas in his statement, Friday (28/11).
He highlighted the achievements of the 2014 Copyright Law which was considered to be born from the spirit of collaboration in the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, which had a significant impact on the growth of performing rights, creator income and state revenues.
The chairman of the DPR Democratic Party faction said that the 2014 Copyright Law was an important milestone in building a modern and sustainable creative ecosystem. He said that the music, film, performing arts and digital content industries were developing rapidly, while encouraging an increase in the economic value of the national creative sector.
“During the reign of the sixth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, we placed copyright in a position of honor. The 2014 Copyright Law was born through a spirit of collaboration to guarantee freedom of creativity and provide better economic protection for creators,” said Ibas.
However, he reminded that the development of digital technology and the penetration of AI requires new, responsive regulations, both in royalty governance, digital rights management, and protection of works produced with the latest technology.
“We want to ensure that Indonesia remains a fair, modern and sustainable home for all of the nation’s creators. So, copyright regulations must not lag behind current developments,” he said.
Ibas added that policy updates must involve all stakeholders, especially arts workers of various scales.
He also emphasized that his party faction would continue to oversee policies that support arts workers from all classes.According to him, regulatory updates should not favor certain groups.
“Regulation updates must not only favor certain groups. All large, medium and small creators have the same rights to be protected,” he said.
