The US Food and Drug Administration/Food Supervisory Agency (US FDA) announces new regulations related to
import
Shrimp and spices from Indonesia, following cases of radioactive contamination that were detected previously.
In his statement uploaded on the official website on Saturday (Indonesian Time), the FDA said the import certification rules would be implemented on October 31, 2025.
This step targets products from a number of regions in Indonesia that are included in the red list (red list) due to detected containing Cesium-137, radioactive elements that are common
Al Arabiya.

The company that is on the red list is required to have certification from a third party accredited to ensure the control of the radioactive element. If it is then deleted from the red list, the company will still be in strict supervision and must meet additional reporting requirements under the yellow list category.
For companies in the yellow list whose products are considered to have the potential risk of Cesium-137-FDA contamination, requires the delivery certification from the institution appointed by the Indonesian government and recognized by the FDA.
Although Indonesia does not have weapons or nuclear power plants, this case highlights the importance of a tighter food supervision system.
In August, the FDA had issued a warning to consumers and food industry players in the US not to consume, sell, or present frozen shrimp production of PT Bahari Makmur Sejati, after the product was known to contain Cesium-137.
The shrimp are processed in the industrial area near Jakarta, which was later found to have radioactive contamination. The National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) is currently still tracing the area of affected area.
“We just received a report a few hours ago. We still need time to determine what steps must be taken,” said Bara Hasibuan, a spokesman for the investigation team.
