Putin said that Indonesia and Russia’s economic relations had developed consistently over the 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“There are many prospects in the energy sector, including nuclear energy. I know that Indonesia has related plans, and if Indonesia decides to involve Russia we are ready to help,” said Putin.

Indonesia officially becomes a full member of BRICS.This was conveyed by the Brazilian government, which holds the post of president of the bloc in 2025, in a statement on January 6, 2025.
Indonesia officially became a member of BRICS after other member countries agreed by consensus at the BRICS summit in 2023 in Johannesburg.
“Indonesia shares with other group members its support for reforming global governance institutions, and contributes positively to deepening cooperation in the Global South,” said the Brazilian government as reported by Reuters.
BRICS is an economic bloc consisting of developing countries.Initially, BRICS was named BRIC.The name was coined by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill in a 2001 research paper.
BRICS is taken from the initials of Brazil, Russia, India and China whose economic growth is considered ready to challenge the dominant G7 countries. This group was formed on the basis that international institutions were too dominated by Western powers and no longer served developing countries.
This economic bloc is not a formal organization like the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), but rather a non-Western economic bloc that coordinates economic and diplomatic efforts to achieve common goals.
The BRICS countries are seeking to build alternatives to the dominance of Western viewpoints in key multilateral groups, such as the World Bank, G7), and the UN Security Council.
