PT Tirta Investama as a manufacturer of branded bottled drinking water (AMDK).
Aqua
provide an explanation regarding the alleged raw material for the product using water from drilled wells.
Danone Indonesia Vice President Corporate Secretary Vera Galuh Sugijanto explained that drilling is a production process that must be carried out to obtain water from the deepest soil or stressed aquifer.
“If there is a perception or opinion that Aqua water is drilled water, our permit conveys that drilling is a way that must be done to get water from deep ground sources or what we call stressed aquifers or protected aquifers,” said Vera in a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission VII DPR RI, Central Jakarta, Monday (10/11).

He also added that water from stressed aquifers is naturally protected by layers of rock so there is no risk of contamination.
“Because it has been naturally protected there for hundreds of years by layers of rock, there is no risk of contamination from surrounding pollution from the water source. So the water source is mountain water, in accordance with the hydrogeology,” he added.
Furthermore, Vera also explained that the company was collaborating with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Padjadjaran University (Unpad) to conduct hydrogeological studies before determining the location of the factory so that the water source was proven to come from rainwater catchment areas in the mountains.
“Our water source is a mountain water source according to the hydrogeological study,” said Vera.
The controversy over Aqua product water sources has emerged in the public recently due to inspection content on the YouTube account of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (Demul) alias KDM.
In this content, the manager mentions that Aqua’s water source comes from underground, not surface water.
Initially, Dedi asked where the water source used as raw material for bottled mineral water came from.
“Take the water from the river?”said Dedi asking one of the staff who met him.
“The water comes from underground, sir,” said the staff.
Suddenly DediĀ asked whether it was true that the water produced was not surface water? He then asked again where the groundwater was taken from.
The company staff then answered that the water was taken from the ground by drilling.
With a surprised face, Dedi reiterated that it was true that water was taken from the drilled ground. He also asked whether groundwater extraction would not have an effect on land shifting.
“I think it’s from surface water. From river or spring water. Does that mean it’s in the category of deep pump well?”saidĀ Dedi again.
