SEA Games Plus
in 2028.
“We are communicating with several countries to initiate the SEA Games to be expanded. So there is a new caucus called SEA Plus,” said Okto, Wednesday (24/12).
“So, it’s not just 11 countries, but countries such as Bhutan and countries from Oceania will be added,” he said at a press conference at the KOI office, Jakarta.

The Oceania countries in question are New Zealand and Fiji.Then Australia is also projected to be invited to participate in the SEA Games Plus.
The plan is for the first edition of the SEA Games Plus to be held in the Philippines in 2028. Okto hopes that this event can be a stepping stone for athletes to a higher stage.
“So this will be a new measurement event. If we usually measure 11 countries at the SEA Games, we will measure more than 11 countries. This will be an interesting event in the future,” he said.
Okto believes that SEA Games Plus can focus more on Olympic sports.According to him, the SEA Games are often tinkered with the sport that is the host country’s favorite.
“Because we saw yesterday, whether in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam or even Indonesia, all the hosts want to be the overall champion,” Okto argued.
“So in the future, Indonesia is taking the initiative that multi-events cost so much money, they must prioritize the Olympic events,” he said.
