Kolintang and Reog Ponorogo are now officially on the recognized list of Indonesia’s Intangible Cultural Heritage

.This was discovered after Indonesia received an Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) certificate on Tuesday (2/12) at the National Museum.
The Director General of Diplomacy, Promotion and Cultural Cooperation at the Ministry of Culture, Endah Tjahjani Dwirini Retnoastuti, assessed that this determination was considered a valuable moment for Indonesia.

“Being included in the UNESCO list is not the end of the journey. It is actually the beginning of a much greater responsibility for efforts to preserve, develop and utilize it for the whole community,” said Endah as reported

, Tuesday (2/12).
“The certificate that was handed over today is proof of recognition. This certificate is an international mandate, a commitment from the country so that we together maintain the continuity of traditions that have been passed down hundreds of years ago,” he said.
This Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate was handed over by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Culture.

The Ministry of Culture then handed over the original certificate to the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI) and copies of the certificate were given to several regional governments and communities.
“These historical documents and certificates are part of building the nation’s collective memory,” he said.
“To regional heads, both provincial and city, we handed over a copy of this certificate as a form of trust, that the regional government is the basic guardian for the protection and development of cultural heritage,” continued Endah.
Endah then emphasized that the state would continue to be present and support to ensure that this cultural heritage could continue to be sustainable.Conservation efforts in various aspects are an important commitment to maintain Indonesian traditions.
“The state is here to accompany, support and ensure that efforts to protect cultural heritage are carried out in a sustainable manner. Every step and every achievement is the result of the mutual cooperation of all of us,” he said.
Overall, Indonesia now holds 16 Intangible Cultural Heritages recognized by UNESCO, namely wayang, keris, angklung, saman dance, three genres of traditional Balinese dance, pantun, gamelan, kolintang, and Reog Ponorogo.
Then there is also batik, batik education and training, noken, pinisi, pencak silat, herbal medicine, and kebaya.
