Surono admitted that there had been a significant improvement in Indonesia’s badminton achievements.It is hoped that this situation will increase the chances of winning a gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games.
“Yesterday during the badminton review there was also a very significant development, namely that they will also field the best athletes,” said Surono at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Office, Jakarta, Thursday (6/11).

Surono believes that neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Thailand are fielding the best forces.Meanwhile, Indonesia relies on young athletes without the presence of big names such as Jonatan Christie, Fajar Alfian, and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, whose achievements are currently rising.
“Because Malaysia and Thailand turned out to have the best squads. That’s why it has now been agreed between the review team and PBSI that there will be several player changes, the best will go there,” he said.
Therefore, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is proposing changes to players to PBSI.If the PBSI management agrees with the plan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports will communicate with KOI and the SEA Games committee to change the names of those who will depart.
“This is currently in the process of proposing changes, namely technically from PB directly to KOI and we are also overseeing the existing administration from both PB and KOI to re-register with the SEA Games committee,” he said.
Previously, PBSI announced 20 names to go to the 2025 SEA Games consisting of 10 male and 10 female athletes.
Even though it consists of young players, there are a number of names who already have superior status in the PBSI National Training Center.An example is Alwi Farhan’s men’s singles who ranked first in Cipayung.
There is also Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Pasaribu who are the best mixed doubles in Indonesia.
It didn’t stop there, Putri Kusuma Wardani also took part in the 2025 SEA Games squad. Putri KW is Indonesia’s best women’s single at the moment and was able to win a bronze medal at the 2025 World Championships.
In the men’s doubles number, Indonesia also fielded Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana.The Leo/Bagas duet is one of the players with a lot of flying experience who can be expected to be a mainstay in the men’s doubles event.
