Duwaji was born in Texas to Syrian parents.He grew up between two cultures before his family moved to Dubai when he was nine.
It was this transcontinental childhood that later shaped his worldview and the humanitarian themes that underlie his art.
Meet Mamdani on Hinge
Duwaji first met Zohran Mamdani through the dating app Hinge in 2021 after he moved to New York City to pursue a career in the Monday field.
Several months after moving, he became engaged to Mamdani.In February they married and in July, the couple held a wedding celebration in Uganda, Mamdani’s birthplace.
Education
In 2019, Duwaji graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a bachelor’s degree in communication arts.Then he earned a master’s degree in fine arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 2024.

Rama Duwaji is an artist who has created illustrations that celebrate women’s experiences through his art.
