According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), Israeli warplanes pounded the town of Mahrouna as well as buildings in Jbaa, Majadal and Baraasheet.
“This is completely a civilian area. We continue to receive threats from Israel,” local official Yassir Madi told reporters.
“There wasn’t a single window within a 300 meter radius that wasn’t broken. Everyone was in shock,” he said.
According to the Israeli military, their strikes targeted “Hezbollah weapons storage facilities” located in the “heartland of the civilian population.”
Israel once again accused Hezbollah of using civilians as a bulwark and operating in communities.
Israel and Hezbollah are currently bound by a ceasefire starting November 2024. However, the Zionist State continues to attack Lebanon and maintains troops in five areas of southern Lebanon which are considered strategic.
This attack occurred just days after Pope Leo XIV visited Lebanon from Sunday to Tuesday.During the visit, no attacks were launched by Tel Aviv.
During his visit, Pope Leo XIV called for no more hostilities in Lebanon. He also criticized the anti-Muslim sentiment often echoed by those who oppose immigration.
Israel’s attack on Lebanon also came a day after Lebanese and Israeli civilian representatives held face-to-face talks for the first time in decades.
The delegates met on Wednesday (3/12) at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping force in Naqura, Lebanon, near the border with Israel.According to Lebanese officials, the talks had a positive tone.
The Lebanese government also hopes that the talks can continue with the “language of negotiations” instead of the “language of war”.
