) spoke out regarding smuggling
nickel powder
by Chinese foreign nationals (WNA) through their special airport in North Maluku.
The Chinese foreigner with the initials MY was arrested directly at IWIP Special Airport on Friday (5/12), after being caught carrying 5 packs of mixed nickel powder and 4 packs of pure nickel powder onto a Super Air Jet plane bound for Manado.
Regarding this matter, management said that it was aware of the alleged transportation of materials without permission at the Weda Bay Special Airport.

“IWIP always complies with all operational provisions and applicable security procedures, including the rules set by the authorities,” said Management in a written statement, Monday (8/12).
However, the company denied the narrative circulating because it was considered inaccurate.The reason is that the goods being transported are legal.
“IWIP conveys that the information circulating in the public is inaccurate. The material in question is not nickel, is not an illegal item, and is not part of an illegal activity,” he explained.
Management stated that the material was a mineral sample in the form of alumina from the aluminum industry owned by one of the tenants in the IWIP area.
The transportation was carried out for internal purposes and had administrative permission, and was scheduled to be sent to Jakarta for laboratory testing.
“At the time of the inspection, the supporting documents for transportation were not completely complete, so the delivery process was temporarily stopped,” he stressed.
It was stated that the material was detained by Aviation Security (AvSec) officers, after it was detected through X-Ray inspection before the process
boarding
.
Apart from that, management emphasized that there would be no confiscation, legal examination, individual detention, or investigation by parties outside the airport authority.Currently the sample is under AvSec supervision and will be processed further after the completeness of the documents has been verified.
“IWIP is committed to carrying out operations in accordance with aviation regulations, regional security standards and relevant authority guidelines,” concluded IWIP in its press release.
