JAFF 2025 will screen 227 films, taking place 29 November-6 December

Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (

) will be held again this year.The 20th JAFF will take place from November 29 to December 6 in Yogyakarta and record this year’s monumental achievements.
JAFF Program Director Alexander Matius said that JAFF 2025 set a record for film registrants and was ready to screen 227 films from 43 countries in six studios.

The increase in the number of registrants, said Alexander, reflects the high enthusiasm of Asian filmmakers to participate.From hundreds of applicants, the JAFF curation team selected 227 films to be screened.
Matthew emphasized that curation was carried out objectively, focusing on “cinematic value” without looking at the name of the maker or the length of the film.
“The number of film registrants this year reached 894 films, and that is up from last year,” said Alexander at Dialogue Kemang, Jakarta, Wednesday (5/11).

“We have a curation team and have been curating all the films for quite a long time. From the moment we opened registration and there were films submitted, we have started curating them.”
“The curation process does not look at the name of the filmmaker or the duration of the film. Our main focus is the cinematic value brought by the work,” he said.
JAFF 2025 carries the theme Transfiguration and will open with the classic film Javanese Opera directed by Garin Nugroho in 35mm format.The festival will close with director Aco Tenri’s debut film Suka Duka Tawa.
This year’s festival will also focus on cinema from Sulawesi through thematic screenings and discussions.The film lineup can be seen via the web jaff-filmest.org.
JAFF is also expanding its global and industry reach through program collaborations with Netflix (Creative Asia highlighting Reza Rahadian’s new film) and Hong Kong’s Action Film Academy Awards.
All films from 43 countries are planned to be available to audiences outside Yogyakarta through a partnership with KlikFilm as an online platform partner.
