“I am sorry for the loss of many lives due to heavy rain in the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Indonesia. I convey my condolences to the victims and the families left behind,” he said.
Takaichi also hopes that the victims and areas affected by the disaster can recover quickly.
Apart from that, the PM emphasized that Japan is ready to provide the assistance needed in the midst of this disaster.
“Based on a humanitarian perspective and our friendly relations with both countries, Japan intends to provide the necessary support,” said Takaichi.
Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu also conveyed a message of condolence to Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono following the flood and landslide disaster on Sumatra Island.
“I would like to express my deepest condolences to the victims and express my sympathy to their families,” said Toshimitsu, quoted by the official website.
The Japanese Embassy in Indonesia also expressed its sorrow and condolences to the victims and families affected by the disaster.
The Japanese Embassy also prays that all efforts to search for victims, evacuate and handle the disaster will run smoothly.
“And also pray that as many people as possible can be found and rescued quickly,” they continued on the Japanese Embassy’s Facebook account.
Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Otaka Masato also reaffirmed the close and strong relations between the two countries.
Masato said Japan stood by Thailand’s side in difficult times and called the two countries “true friends.”
Since last week, floods have hit a number of areas in Southeast Asian countries including Indonesia and Thailand.The disaster was caused by a tropical cyclone and heavy rain for days.
Indonesia recorded the number of deaths with 457 victims, while Thailand had 170 people.
