Even though the Palace has traditional procedures for determining the heir to the royal throne, Pakubuwono XIII’s closest family agrees that this figure must receive support from all parties.
The younger brother of the late Pakubuwono XIII, KPGH Puger confirmed that the Surakarta Palace had its own procedures for determining the top leadership of the kingdom.

“This palace already has customs, it already has rules. Yes, we’ll just have to wait for the journey,” said Puger, Monday (3/11).
However, Puger added that the determination of the King of the Surakarta Palace must still be based on family agreement.All elements within the Palace will discuss who is the successor to the throne of the Surakarta Palace.
“This is a dynasty, there is an agreement. There could be some kind of meeting later, it just remains to be ratified, the decision is based on custom,” he said.
Pakubuwono XIII currently leaves behind five daughters and two sons from his three wives.
The eldest son, KGPH Mangkubumi, was born from the marriage of Pakubuwono XIII to his second wife, KRAy Winari Sri Haryani.
Meanwhile, his second son, KGPH Puruboyo, was born from his marriage to Asih Winarni alias KRAy Pradapaningsih, who changed his name to GKR Pakubuwono after being appointed Empress.KGPHA Puruboyo himself was crowned crown prince with the title KGPAA Hamangkunegoro in February 2022.
Puger invited all relatives of the Surakarta Palace to maintain harmony in the process of royal succession.
He advised that being a king does not mean being superior to others.According to Puger, the king was only one role in the Islamic Mataram civilization.
“Everything is actually the same, only the job description is different. Like us and the president are actually the same,” he said.
Mourning atmosphere
On that occasion, Puger was reluctant to comment further on the issue of succession at the Surakarta Palace.He asked the public to wait for the funeral process for Pakubuwono XIII to be completed.
“We are just mourning, we are talking about how this sinuhun will be delivered in a peaceful atmosphere,” he said.

Dipo did not answer firmly when asked about KGPAA Hamangkunegoro’s chances of becoming the successor to the royal throne.
“The name already shows identification,” he said.
Dipo referred to the crown prince’s full name, namely KGPAA Hamangkunegoro Sudibyo Rojoputro Narendra ing Mataram.The word narendra, in Javanese means king.
However, Dipo admitted that the prospective king must be able to gather support from all parties.According to him, the king must have three important criteria.
