“The letter for extending the implementation of administrative sanctions obligations for the Sarbagita Suwung Regional TPA was signed directly by Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Number P.1697/A/GKM.2.5/12/2025 dated 18 December 2025,” said Koster in a press release, Tuesday (23/12).
The Minister of Environment’s decision is a response to a letter sent by the Governor of Bali, the Regent of Badung, and the Mayor of Denpasar on December 16 2025.
The letter relates to a request to postpone the closure of Suwung TPA
“Based on letters from the governor, mayor and Regent of Badung, the minister has assigned a team to conduct a review of Bali. Thus, it has resulted in an assessment that the Bali Provincial Government has made efforts to improve administrative sanctions obligations,” said Koster.
Apart from that, responding to the Minister of Environment’s decision regarding the extension of the closing time for the Suwung TPA to 28 February 2026, Koster said that the city/regency government was only permitted to dispose of waste to that location up to a maximum of 50 percent of the daily number of waste trucks.
The remainder must be managed by optimizing Source-Based Waste Management (PSBS) using the modern teba method, TPS3R, TPST, using shredding machines and decomposters, organizing perbekels or subdistrict heads and traditional village villages in their areas and collaborating with other parties.
“While waiting for the PSEL facility to operate, the Denpasar City Government and Badung Regency Government have been given the opportunity to look for alternative waste management using environmentally friendly technology,” said Koster.
Previously, the Suwung TPA was planned to be closed starting December 23.This was conveyed
directly by Koster to the Denpasar City Government and Badung Regency Government.”The Suwung TPA must be closed no later than December 23 2025. The Denpasar City Government and Badung Regency Government are prohibited from bringing waste to the Suwung TPA,” said Koster, last Monday (8/12).
