KPop Demon Hunters
has a chance of not getting a nomination in the highest film and television event in England, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts aka BAFTA Awards.
This became known after the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced that this phenomenal animated film did not meet the requirements.

on Tuesday (11/11), BAFTA eligibility rules required films to have a theatrical release to be eligible for nomination.
However, in “extraordinary circumstances”, the BAFTA Film Committee may allow entries that are already available to the British public through other distribution models such as special public screenings.
Netflix is said to have appealed the decision.The streaming service argued that showing the film through an event in theaters, held two months before its streaming debut, was worth considering.
However BAFTA’s Film Committee rejected the appeal, advising that KPop Demon Hunters still did not meet the eligibility criteria.
Specifically, this film was even judged to have failed to meet the minimum requirement of “at least 10 commercial screenings in the UK over at least seven days in aggregate”.
KPop Demon Hunters previously had a limited screening in 264 UK cinemas on 23 and 24 August 2025. The film was also screened again in 528 UK cinemas over the Halloween weekend.
Meanwhile, to qualify for the Oscars, this film was screened from June 20 to 26 in three US cinemas in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City.Viewing begins the same day the film premieres on Netflix.
Netflix’s decision in the United States conforms to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) rules which require a film to be shown with paid tickets in commercial cinemas in at least six metropolitan areas of the United States.
The six counties are Los Angeles County, New York City (all five counties within the city);Bay Area (San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, San Mateo and Contra Costa counties);Chicago (Cook County, Illinois);Dallas-Fort Worth (Dallas and Tarrant counties, Texas);or Atlanta (Fulton County, Georgia).
