Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said the landslide was caused by high rainfall over a long period of time in the area.
“The high rainfall caused landslides and hit residents’ houses. The three villages affected were Cibeunying, Cibaduyut and Tarakan Hamlets,” he said in a written statement, Friday (14/11).

He said that currently the Cilacap Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and a joint SAR team were at the location to evacuate local residents.
Abdul said that until 03.00 WIB, the joint team had managed to evacuate a total of 23 people who survived and three people had minor injuries.
“Two people died. Meanwhile, 21 people are still being searched for,” he explained.
He explained that officers experienced challenges in the evacuation process because the contour of the land after the landslide was still unstable.Nevertheless, Abdul said the search process was carried out again this morning with the help of a unit of heavy equipment.
“The temporary rapid response team recorded material losses including 12 damaged housing units and 16 threatened housing units,” he said.
“BNPB appealed to residents and the SAR team on duty at the location to always be aware of the risk of subsequent landslides,” he added.
