“Apart from closing road access, the disaster also had an impact on cutting off electricity and communication networks in Pakkat District,” said Humbahas Deputy Chief of Police, Commissioner Manson Nainggolan, Wednesday (26/11).
Deputy Chief of Humbahas Police, Commissioner Manson Nainggolan, together with Humbahas Police personnel, immediately moved quickly to the disaster location. They are working together with the Humbang Hasundutan Regency Government and related agencies to open routes that are blocked by material.
“On the Pakkat-Onan Ganjang route, there were two landslide points, but they were passable because we together with the relevant agencies have been cleaning up the material since last night at 22.00 WIB and finished at around 04.00 WIB in the morning,” said Manson.
However, the strategic route connecting Humbang Hasundutan-Central Tapanuli in Sigurung-gurung, Ambobi Paranginan Village, is still paralyzed. The weather is still rainy and the unstable condition of the cliffs means that the cleaning process must be carried out extra carefully.
On Wednesday morning, joint officers continued cleaning up landslide material.According to Police Commissioner Manson, work on the Pakkat-Barus Jalinsum route is expected to take longer because the volume of material is quite large.
“Joint officers and the community are still continuing to clean up. We urge people who are passing through to be patient and continue to prioritize safety,” he stressed.
Apart from isolating land access, landslides also damaged electricity and telecommunications networks in Pakkat District.Since Tuesday evening, residents have been unable to access cellular communications or use electricity for basic needs.
PLN and telecommunications service providers are carrying out searches and repairs, but the terrain is covered in landslides, meaning recovery will take time.
“We ask the public to remain calm. Together with all parties, we are making maximum efforts to speed up network repairs,” said Manson.
Considering that extreme weather still has the potential to cause further landslides, people are asked to remain careful, especially those who live in vulnerable areas or often cross hilly routes.
“Prioritize safety and immediately report it to the police if you encounter an emergency situation,” advised Manson.
Humbahas Police Chief AKBP Arthur Sameaputty emphasized the importance of synergy between agencies to speed up disaster management.
“We hope that this cooperation will become stronger, so that every incident can be handled quickly, precisely and coordinated for the safety of residents,” he said.
