, suspect in the alleged sedition case
demonstration
in August 2025 filed an exception to the public prosecutor’s indictment.
“After we looked at the indictment that the prosecutor had read to me, there were several points that we actually objected to because this indictment was very forced and some of what was here was just the prosecutor’s assumptions which were not in accordance with my BAP,” said Laras during the initial trial at the South Jakarta District Court, Wednesday (5/11).
On the other hand, Laras’ attorney from the Jakarta Apik Legal Aid Institute (LBH), Said Niam assessed that the charges made against Laras were just assumptions and incomplete.

“We consider that this indictment is ambiguous, forced, unclear, inaccurate and incomplete. And, we also see that there are a series of constructions which we consider to be assumptions, because they do not match the facts based on the results of the examination,” said Said.
Chief judge I Ketut Darpawan then gave one week for the next trial, namely Wednesday (12/11) next week.
“So we will postpone the trial to November 12,” said the judge.
Charged with multiple articles
In his indictment, the prosecutor said that Laras’ Instagram posts deliberately distributed information that was inflammatory, inviting or influencing other people, thereby causing hatred.
“The defendant intentionally and without right distributed and/or transmitted electronic information and/or electronic documents that were inciting, inviting, or influencing other people so as to create feelings of hatred or hostility towards certain individuals and/or groups of people based on race, nationality, ethnicity, skin color, religion, belief, gender, mental disability, or physical disability,” said the prosecutor.
The prosecutor explained that Laras made a video at the ASEAN office in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, which is next to the National Police Headquarters, while pointing towards the building. In the upload, Laras wrote a statement which the prosecutor interpreted as an invitation to burn down the National Police Headquarters building.
“The meaning is that when your office is right next to the National Police Headquarters, please burn down this building and arrest them all,” said the prosecutor.
Based on these charges, Laras Faizati was charged with multiple articles, namely article 45A paragraph 2 in conjunction with article 28 paragraph 2 of Law Number 11 of 2008, article 48 paragraph 1 in conjunction with article 32 paragraph 2 of Law Number 11 of 2008, article 160 of the Criminal Code, and article 161 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
Previously, the police arrested Laras because of the contents of the ASEAN office building where he worked, which was right next to the National Police Headquarters. The content was accused by the police of provoking demonstrations at that time.
