“The incident occurred after unusually heavy rain in the area,” said the airport manager.”Treatment, cleanup and restoration work was carried out immediately and continued more intensively once weather conditions eased.”
The flood of water that came from the sky immediately filled the floor and the management said it had been cleaned within 1.5 hours. After that, the K and L check-in counters were reopened after the system was deemed safe to use.
According to the management, the airport’s core functions, including passenger processing, terminal movement, and main systems such as the aerotrain and baggage handling system, were not affected by the incident.
“Technical checks are still ongoing and several support functions are still under close monitoring,” they said.
According to reports
The Star Malaysia
and
VN Express
, the water leak in Terminal 1 occurred due to a contractor error during ongoing roof repair and waterproofing work.
However, this incident which later went viral has become the subject of ridicule by netizens. They considered the incident to be Jewel 2, aka a rival to the artificial waterfall attraction at Singapore Changi International Airport.
