“If there is a regent who is whiny and gives up in the face of this disaster, please resign or step down from office. We will replace him with another, who is ready to work for the people,” said Mualem on Friday.
The following is a list of regents in Aceh who gave up in the face of floods and landslides in the province.
Regent of North Aceh
North Aceh Regent Ismail A Jalil expressed his inability to overcome floods and landslides.
This inability was stated in a letter from the North Aceh Regency Government sent to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on December 2.
In the letter, he said that the level of damage that occurred in the area due to floods and landslides was worse than the tsunami disaster that hit Aceh in 2004.
Ismail said that floods and landslides devastated 27 sub-districts and 852 villages.
“We declare the inability of emergency disaster management efforts and ask the President to help with flood management in North Aceh Regency,” wrote Ismail A Jalil in his letter.
Regent of South Aceh
South Aceh Regent Mirwan MS also stated his inability to handle floods and landslides there.
He published the letter of non-compliance on November 27.
Five days after that, on Tuesday (2/12), Mirwan actually went on Umrah with his family when many residents in the Trumon area fled.
Regent of Central Aceh
Central Aceh Regent Haili Yoga is also overwhelmed with dealing with the impact of floods and landslides in his area.He delivered a statement that described the regional government as needing central assistance to handle it.
