Earthquake
with a magnitude of 5.1 rocked East Seram Regency, Maluku, Monday (1/12) morning.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Class I Pincak Karang Panjang Ambon said the earthquake occurred at 08.16 WIT (06.16 WIB).Regarding the earthquake that occurred, BMKG recorded that there was no potential for a tsunami.
The epicenter of the earthquake was in the sea at a depth of 10 kilometers at coordinates 02.95 South Latitude (LS) and 130.25 East Longitude (BT), to be precise 33 North West of Bula, Eastern Seram Regency and 43 kilometers east of Kobisonta, Central Maluku Regency.

Shallow earthquake
In a press release received on Monday morning, BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Director Daryono stated that by paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow type of earthquake due to North Seram subduction activity.
“The results of the source mechanism analysis show that the earthquake has a horizontal upward movement mechanism (
oblique thrust
),” he said.
He said this earthquake caused shaking in the West Bula area, East Seram with an intensity scale of IV MMI (if it was felt by many people in the house during the day).
“Until now there have been no reports of the impact of damage caused by the earthquake,” said Daryono.
Apart from that, he added, “Until 06.30 WIB, BMKG monitoring results had not shown any aftershock activity (
