The Malaysian men’s doubles failed to win the 2025 SEA Games gold medal because Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, who were the first seeds in this event, lost 14-21, 17-21 to the Indonesian doubles, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University, Sunday (14/12).
With Aaron/Soh winning silver, it means that the Malaysian badminton team only won 1 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals at the 2025 SEA Games. Previously, BAM had targeted to win 4 gold medals.

, Rexy admitted to taking responsibility by stepping down as dual director of BAM.
“Based on the national doubles performance, the target of four gold medals seemed realistic. However, in reality, we failed to achieve it and only won one gold medal,” said Rexy.
“So therein lies the problem of responsibility that I mean. If there is a [request for resignation], I am ready [to resign]. That’s all,” added Rexy.
The former national training coach for the Indonesian badminton team revealed that many parties would question his responsibility as coaching director regarding failure to achieve targets. It is possible that the criticism came from outsiders.
“Of course there will be views and criticism from outside parties. Even before, after the defeat in the team event, some people said it was entirely the coach’s fault,” said Rexy.
