The unusual smell of gas from the durians apparently spread to neighbors who feared it was a gas pipe leak.

A number of officers also came to the Malaysian family’s apartment unit.
A viral video on TikTok by user FroyJall shows that a number of firefighters were knocking on apartment units one by one to look for the source of the smell which was thought to be leaking gas.
Arriving at the apartment, officers knocked on the Malaysian family’s apartment, which was the source of the suspected gas leak.
It turned out that the Malaysian family was opening a package of durian fruit and eating it with pulut and sticky rice.
“Sorry to my neighbors,” said the caption in the video.
In the comments column, the account that uploaded the video said that a neighbor who lived on the sixth floor was the one who called the fire brigade.
Meanwhile, the family from Malaysia lives on the second floor of the apartment building.

The Malaysian family apparently kept the durian in the refrigerator and ate some of it which was stored in a plastic bag that was tied tightly and stored in a separate room.
“We opened the window and quickly sprayed air freshener,” said Faroy, a member of the Malaysian family.
A number of netizens in the comments column criticized the Malaysian family for not telling the officer the truth.
Meanwhile, Faroy admitted that he was afraid to be frank with the firefighters because he was afraid of being fined and asked to move from the apartment.
This is not the first time that the aroma of durian fruit, which is rare in Western countries, has been linked to the smell of leaking gas.In Germany, firefighters received three reports a day regarding suspected gas leaks which apparently came from the smell of durian.
