Gabriel Palermo is one of seven naturalized Malaysian national team players sanctioned by FIFA.
FIFA assesses that the Football Federation of Malaysia (FAM) falsified the player’s birth documents to perpetuate the naturalization process for the Malaysian national team.

FIFA also imposed sanctions on FAM because it was deemed to have committed a violation.FAM was fined 350 thousand Swiss Francs (Rp. 7.3 billion), while the seven naturalized players were banned from playing for 12 months.
FAM had appealed to FIFA.Several weeks later, the FIFA Appeals Committee officially rejected FAM’s appeal.Sanctions for FAM and seven players have not changed.
FIFA sanctions have a long tail for Gabriel Palermo.The 23 year old player had his loan contract terminated by Unionistas de Salamanca.
The club from Palermo, CD Tenerife, also doesn’t want to bother.CD Tenerife also terminated the player’s contract.
“Unionistas de Salamanca has reached an agreement with Club Deportivo Tenerife to end the loan period of the player Gabri Palmero, based on the communication received from FIFA on 25 September and after the player’s appeal was rejected on 3 November,” said the official statement from Unionistas de Salamanca, Friday (7/11).

Unionistas de Salamanca also thanked the player for his dedication in recent months.This deal does not incur any financial costs for the club.
Not long after Salamanca’s official statement, CD Tenerife as the club that owns Palermo also terminated the player’s contract.
“Gabriel Felipe Arrocha ended his loan spell at Unionistas de Salamanca CF and his contract with CD Tenerife on Friday, November 7,” the club’s official statement via the X account.
